Sure insurance

New research from Sure Insurance, regional Queensland’s only dedicated home insurance business, has revealed 23 per cent of Cairns homeowners don’t insure their contents due to high insurance costs.

Sure Insurance Managing Director, Bradley Heath, said exorbitant home insurance premiums in North Queensland have left thousands of Cairns residents unable to afford both home and contents insurance, ultimately forcing them to abandon contents insurance.

“It’s outrageous that home insurance premiums have been a luxury expense for North Queenslanders and they’re not able to protect their most valued possessions,” Mr Heath said.

“The cost of replacing an entire household of possessions is something most people could simply not afford, so with storm season once again upon us I would strongly urge people to shop around and find a better deal so their mind can be put to rest.”

Sure Insurance launched in July to provide regional Queenslanders with fairer and more affordable home and contents insurance options and to date has saved the community tens of thousands of dollars.

Federal Member for Leichhardt, Warren Entsch, said he welcomed the launch of Sure Insurance at a time when home insurance costs are at crisis point in North Queensland.

“We’ve seen home insurance premiums treble in North Queensland in recent years due to cyclone damage to homes and buildings and I’ve been calling on both the private and public sector to step up and do something about it,” Mr Entsch said.

“Anything that eases home insurance premiums and provides the community with real options is a positive and I thank Sure Insurance for giving North Queenslanders a go at such a critical time.”
