Regional Queensland residents will now have a “real choice and fair go” when it comes to home insurance, with the launch of a new Queensland-owned and based insurance business, Sure Insurance.
Sure Insurance has been created to deliver affordable and transparent home and contents insurance for Queenslanders from Bundaberg to Cape York, at a time when many regional homeowners are battling exorbitant premiums.
Managing Director of Sure Insurance, Bradley Heath, said home insurance premiums were at a crisis point in Central Queensland, with premiums rising 130% over the past decade, compared to 50% in the rest of Australia.
“Regional Queensland residents are paying outrageous home insurance premiums, with many unable to protect their home as they simply can’t afford it,” Mr Heath said.
“The situation is at crisis point so we launched Sure Insurance to provide the community with a fair go.
“House insurance shouldn’t be a luxury expense, however it’s fast becoming one so we’ve launched to provide fair, transparent and affordable home insurance so regional Queensland residents are protected and have peace of mind.”
Senator Hanson said she supported greater competition and individualised cover for central Queensland property owners, as a contrast to corporations that often followed a mismatched “one price fits all” approach.
“Queensland is a state of extremes, the weather can be very unpredictable, and standardised insurance policies rarely work very well here,” Senator Hanson said.
“Homeowners in the north have in the past been the victims of massive blanket premium hikes when they may not, realistically, be at any increased risk.
“I’m glad a new Australian company has emerged that has a hands-on understanding of the realities of life in the north and gives local property owners another option, and provides tailored cover based on individual local circumstances.”
